I love this picture because it typifies Moldovan beauty so well. This was a scene that greeted me every day as I headed home from language classes in Rusestii Noi. Gates similar to this one grace the front of almost every Moldovan house, though the colors vary, usually blue, green or white. The designs vary too, but they are alway elaborate and decorative. The church in the background is a great representation of most village Orthodox bisericas (churches). They are simple yet beautiful, with brightly painted domed tops. Although the picture doesn't do the true scene justice, it does give you an idea of the simplistic beauty to be found throughout Moldova.
