One of our jobs as volunteers at Miambo Lodge, was chopping and collecting firewood once a week, for the Red Cross orphan feeding program. I loved
doing this, b/c it was such a great workout, and I always felt like a really tough chick (until I actually tried chopping the wood, that is. Then I just felt wimpy!)
If you look closely at this picture, you can see the huge mark that my axe made. I did not have very good aim, and I was supposed to chop a little triangle out of the wood, but mine ended up being more like a long rectangle. It's harder than it looks apparently!
This is the truck that we would take into the bush when we were collecting firewood. From left to right: Ros, Sarah, me, and Jess.
This is the truck we would take when we did other conservation work b/c it has an open back with seats in it. So, we could keep our eyes open for animals as they drove.
